Your guide to preparing for your first counseling appointment.
We would never expect you to start a journey without a map or navigation system to help you on your way, nor would we want you walking in blind to the process of therapy. This page is dedicated to help you to be fully prepared for your first counseling appointment. Below you will find the steps of the Instruction Manual for Your First Appointment.
*Please print this page along with the forms you need.
1. Fill out the intake forms online
After scheduling your appointment, you will receive an email with the online intake forms. These are the new client forms and questionnaires that you can fill out online through the client portal. This will save us some time when you get to the office. This also gives you a chance to make sure you give all the information you think is necessary for the therapist to know. You can add important events, relationship struggles, family history, or anything else you find important.
2.Location and Directions
Here is the office location:
3333 Camino Del Rio South, Ste 215
San Diego Ca 92108
The counseling office is centrally located in Mission Valley of San Diego, Ca. The therapy office is on Camino Del Rio South (just south of Hwy 8) and the cross street is Texas Street. Click here for driving directions.
Or even better….We have a virtual tour so you can walk through the office. Take a Tour of the Office before you walk in!
3. Finding the Office Once you Arrive
You will find plenty of parking at the front of the building marked as “guest parking.” My office is located on the second floor at Suite 215. Once you take the elevator to the second floor, take a left and the door is across from the bathrooms. The sign will say Estes Therapy and Associates.
*For those who have evening appointments after 6:30pm, please use the call box to the right of the front door to get buzzed up. You will find the name “Estes” and then press call. You will hear the door unlock when you are buzzed in.
4. Help Yourself to Refreshments
Upon arrival, please take a seat in the waiting room. You will find water, tea, coffee, and plenty of magazines to enjoy while you wait for your appointment to begin. Help yourself to our refreshments and I will come out to greet you for the therapy time. You will notice that we do not have a receptionist.
5. What to Expect for the First Session
I will come out to the waiting room to introduce myself and bring you into my office. We will go over the forms, I will answer any questions you have, and we will go over the areas that are bringing you into the office. I like my clients to feel comfortable in my office. We will work as a team; you are the driver and I am co-pilot. At the end of the session, you can decide if you would like to continue working with me and we will set up a plan.
