There’s more to me than just MFT!

I am a therapist, an adventure junkie, a joker, a writer, a social butterfly, a motorcycle lover, a runner, a partner, and a busy bee.

I was once told that I wasn’t going to make it into graduate school and I wouldn’t be able to have a thriving private practice.  I like challenges, so I took that challenge and proved them wrong.  I am passionate and willing to take a risk for my life goals, dreams, and aspirations.  My life-long dream was to have a private practice … and I got it!  Not only did I achieve my goal, but I surpassed my own expectations.Jennine Estes MFT San Diego

I could tell you about the boring stuff … what it’s like being a Marriage Therapist in San Diego, and give you the all the psycho-babble-like jargon, but I would prefer to have you know ME, the person behind the scenes.

I sit in this brown swivel chair in my office, absorbing as much information as I can when I am with my clients. My goal is to really understand their world.  My mind gets filled with movie images as they walk me through their lives, catching me up to speed.

My heart dives in and off we go.  I don’t take sides … I WON’T take sides, and I won’t pick who is “right” or who is “wrong” – couples do enough of that already; I don’t need to keep them stuck in that rut.  I try to take the couples out of their destructive ways of communicating, seeing things with a new lens … and creating a safe, secure bond.

Not only am a therapist, but I am the “ALL” of my business.  I am the accountant, the secretary, the CEO,the PR wanna-be, the HR department, the SEO wanna-be,  etc.  My hats change depending upon the day, and all of it I do whole-hearted. I am also a life-long therapy student … by continuing to receive one-on-one training, improving my skills, and attending bi-monthly meetings with other therapists to keep strong in my therapy approach.  My goal is to be the best I can for my clients.

Another fun aspect of my job is the media part.  I have appeared in various media outlets as the relationship expert, such as Redbook Magazine, Social Work Today magazine, YourTango, KUSI News, Fox 5 News, San Diego Union-Tribune, and more.

It’s been nearly 20 years since I first became interested in studying psychotherapy. I began practicing the scientific approaches to psychotherapy in 1997 and I was hooked from then on.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family psychotherapy in 2004 and I am currently licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist MFT (LMFT#47653) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS).

I focus my practice upon the empirically-based and proven research methods of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

I’ve seen these techniques consistently get results and I truly believe they are the most effective at creating positive, long-term change.
