As humans, we all crave connection and community with others. Sometimes though, life gets in the way. My name is Carly Goldstein and whether you want to reconnect with your partner, navigate a big life transition, or even learn preventative tools and resources, I am here to support you. Long gone are the days where clients lay on the couch and tell their problems to a stoic therapist day after day, year after year. Our time together will be filled with connection, comfort, warmth, safety, and even humor. I practice emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), which is a short-term, solution-focused therapy. I use a highly individualized approach, working closely with you to develop realistic, practical goals to help you create or maintain your dream relationship. I believe that you are the expert on your own life and I am the expert on relationships. Together, we will build you and your partner a toolbox of skills and resources so you can get through anything life might throw at you as a team.
Through therapy, I will help you get to the root of your relationship struggles and celebrate the parts of your relationship that are working for you. We will focus on solutions in an effective and efficient way so you create a life and relationship that feel stable, exciting, and bright. Research actually tells us that couples with healthy relationships live longer, get sick less often, report higher overall happiness, and have better sex lives. Who wouldn’t want that?
For as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to people in their times of need and transitional moments, so when I decided to pursue higher education, I gravitated toward the helping professions, earning a B.S. degree in Human Development from UC Davis and an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University.
For the past several years, I have worked at a high-intensity crisis hotline, witnessing firsthand the heaviness and hopelessness of isolation and psychological crisis, making me well-equipped to be a calm and steady presence for you when life feels out of control or chaotic. I also worked with a culturally diverse population of clients at the Center for Community Counseling and Engagement, where I received advanced training in emotionally-focused therapy (EFT), solution-focused therapy, and cognitive processing therapy (CPT). I am in the process of completing Level 1 and Level 2 Gottman Therapy training, which support me in bringing you the newest relationship research and tools proven to improve relational health. All of these experiences have only strengthened my passion for the healing power of relationships.
When I am not working with clients, you can probably find me testing out a new recipe, exploring the beautiful hikes in San Diego, and spending time with my awesome community of friends and family.
