What is EFT? And how it improves relationships.
"To change the dance, both people have to change their steps." – Susan Johnson
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a short-term strategic therapy approach working with couples. It is a researched bases showing long term change in working with couples. The therapy approach focuses on creating a secure relationship by helping couples learn how to stop old communication patterns, decreasing their reactivity (either quickly snapping or shutting down), and creating an emotionally safe relationship.
EFT helps couples to be more emotionally responsive, available, and accessible to one another through communicating and less reactivity. It also focuses on repairing the relationship and healing old wounds.
As a therapist, I help my couples become the expert in their relationship....but in a new way. The old communication patterns can get couples stuck...and often doesn't work as effectively. In EFT, the couple will learn how to identify and recognize the old patterns, stop the cycle, and jump into the new communication styles. I help them find new ways to express how they feel and learn how to comfort one another when facing a difficult issue.
