The frequency of therapy appointments often depend on the issues being addressed. I like to start the counseling session with my clients discussing the process, what to expect, and treatment plan. Usually after the first assessment sessions, I will have a better understanding of your specific situation and needs. Every situation is different when it comes to treatment plans and frequency of therapy appointments. Some people meet with me on a weekly basis, while others meet with me every other week, every 3 weeks, or even once a month.
I often recommend that couples and individuals in distress start therapy weekly, which allows us to lay the ground work for success. My goal is that you will become the expert of your life and your relationships, but without putting a Band Aid over the wound for a temporary correction; I want you to see long term change. As we begin to see progress, we can gradually have therapy sessions further and further apart, as is appropriate for your situation.
If you are concerned you won’t be able to meet on a weekly basis, we can always come up with a plan for the weeks we don’t meet. Usually this will include homework assignments, writing down agendas, and getting books along side the counseling. Either way, we will do what we can to make this possible for you.
If you have a question about the frequency of therapy appointments, pick up the phone and give me a call.
