| Jennine's journey to becoming a therapist... |
Thank you for visiting my website and having an interest in my counseling services.
I have been studying and practicing scientific approaches to psychotherapy since 1997. I focus upon the empirically based and proven research methods, such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
Through this journey, I regularly attend
trainings and seminars, spent over 3,000 hours with clients (a minimum requirement to take the licensing exam), and attended weekly
clinical supervision meetings. I have my Master's Degree in Marriage and Family
Therapy (main focus is on all aspects of relationships), and I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC#47653) with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). Through this 10+ year journey, I am currently working full-time with my private practice in San Diego, centrally located in Mission Valley.
You will find more
details below about my background in psychology and marriage and family
therapy, as well as, how I work as a therapist.

How my Therapy Career Began:
I began my education in
psychology in 1997, at Point
Loma
Nazarene
University
with a major in General Psychology and a minor in Spanish. About half way through
my bachelor’s degree, I decided to go live in Spain
for a semester to solidify my Spanish. Traveling alone, I went to school full
time at Bilbao
University.
At the same time, I took on an internship at a center called
"Tximeleta" (meaning butterfly in the Basque language). While living
in a different country, I was out of my element, living in a different culture,
and learning to establish myself without family and friends. All of this helped
me develop a stronger sense of self and build personal confidence.
I later attended Alliant
International
University
(also known as California School of Professional Psychology). My graduate work
was completed with the study for a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family
Therapy. Through my undergraduate and graduate work, I accumulated my hours in
various programs and internships. All of the experiences focused heavily on
relationships that helped prepare me for my career as a therapist in marriage
and family therapy.
My career dream was to have my own private practice doing therapy
with relationships. Finally in 2004, after graduating, I started my dream in San
Diego! I am centrally located
in Mission
Valley.
